If it's humping in Cali, you get your ass broke off from the hills. If it's humping in NC, you're walking down the streets. This isn't to knock on anyone either, I did both. I just found California humps to be way more exhausting than NC. Then again, I'm usually way up in the front because I'm tall. My husband left Camp Latrine (LeJeune) in 1975, when it WASN'T a luxury hotel. He wonders if the brass has ever cleaned up the toxic water wells Marines had to drink from for 18+ yrs., since they spend so much money on new barracks. He survived throat cancer in 2019, probably from that water. Two of our daughters were born with birth defects, again, from Camp Latrine water. The last Marine he talked to from LeJeune, told him the water there was still toxic. He has stated that more Marines have died from the toxic water there, than were killed in all of America's wars. And that's not counting dead dependents. So you could say my ex-Marine NCO has a love/hate relationship with the Corps.

In my day, the standard uniform was khaki trousers for summer and greens for winter. The khaki was a worsted wool. It was very light weight and held a crease so sharp you could shave with it, and when I got out, you didn't get no stinking ID, you got a really nice, frame-able honorable discharge certificate. In my day, you were only issued blues if you served in some ceremonial capacity. I got mine at Embassy school.
